What is an oil pump? The oil pump is a component that is used to increase the oil pressure and ensure a certain amount of oil to force the oil to each friction surface. Geared and rotor type oil pumps are widely used in internal combustion engines. Gear type oil pumps are simple in structure, convenient in processing, reliable in operation, long in service life, high in pump oil pressure, and widely used in rotor pump rotors, which are complicated by powder metallurgy. This type of pump has the same advantages as a gear pump, but is compact and small in size.
The function of the oil pump is to force the oil to a certain pressure and then forcibly press it onto the moving surface of each part of the engine. The structure of the oil pump can be divided into two types: gear type and rotor type. The gear type oil pump is further divided into an internal gear type and an external gear type, and the latter is generally referred to as a gear type oil pump.
There are more and more applications of oil pumps on internal combustion engines. At the same time, it also plays a certain role in the fields of semiconductor, solar energy, LCD and other engineering fields. With the development of processing technology, the automotive oil pump, the cycloidal rotor pump, is applied to the sewing machine, especially for some fully enclosed automatic lubrication systems, such as overlock sewing machines and stretch sewing machines. The application of oil pump is very extensive. It plays a very important role in the process of use, and the damage will be relatively large. So how should we replace the oil pump when the oil pump fails?
The oil pump replacement method is very simple. First, all the oil should be drained, the engine oil sump should be disassembled, and the oil pump assembly can be removed and replaced. It is important to understand the main causes of problems with the oil pump. Here Xiaobian also introduces you to the common faults of oil pumps :
1. Inflate. It refers to the oil pump that allows air bubbles to pass through the engine together with the oil. After the oil is inflated, its lubricating properties are degraded, which may cause malfunction. One phenomenon that occurs after the oil is inflated is that all hydraulic valve lifters are noisy.
2. The casting is broken. The casting of the pump ruptures, usually due to uneven pump installation. The installer should read the precautions attached to the purchased pump to understand the knowledge necessary to properly install the pump.
3. The intermediate shaft is damaged. Particles of foreign matter (parts falling from the valve stem seal, pieces of the bearing, the lock ring of the valve lifter, and the plastic cam, the part falling off on the sprocket) enter the pump chamber through the suction screen. If large particles remain between the gears or the impeller, the pump will get stuck. At this time, the intermediate shaft may be twisted and broken.
4. The pressure reducing valve is stuck. The tolerance of the oil pump pressure reducing valve is very strict. If foreign matter enters the pump, the pressure relief valve will become stuck. If the pressure relief valve is stuck in the open position, the oil pressure will be low or no oil pressure. If the pressure relief valve is stuck in the closed position, it often causes damage to the oil filter. When the car is driving off-road, the pressure relief valve on the Jeep's V-6 engine is often stuck in the closed position. This is because the front axle cover causes the aluminum timing cover of the organic oil pump assembly to bulge or sag, resulting in destruction of the oil filter.
5. Gear or impeller wear. Abrasives (dirt, slag, residue left by processing, and abrasive particles) can scratch the impeller or gear.
6. The internal clearance is too large. An increase in the oil pump gap will cause the oil pressure to drop.
